Dragons' Apprentice
What is the Dragons' Apprentice Challenge?
Originally developed by CVS St Albans, Dragons’ Apprentice is an annual challenge that encourages schools, businesses and charities to work together. Through volunteering it offers young people the opportunity to put their entrepreneurial ideas to the test and helps develop work related skills.
What is involved?
Teams of 16 year olds are challenged to turn £100 into £1,000+. Each team has a local business mentor (their dragon) and is paired with a CVS member organisation. Supported by their dragons, the teams develop business ideas with the aim of earning money for their charities. All profits made by the teams go directly to their allocated charities.
North Herts CVS Pilot Project 2011/12
In September 2011, North Herts CVS piloted their first Dragons’ Apprentice project in partnership with St Francis’ College in Letchworth Garden City. Four teams of students worked with Dragons’ from four local businesses including North Hertfordshire Homes, Willmott Dixon, Modern Networks and Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation. The charities linked to the teams were Home-Start North Herts, Furniture Link, Hitchin Stroke Club and Remap.
