Community Transport Scheme

Helping less able local people solve their transport problems
Our community transport scheme provides a door to door car service for elderly/disabled residents in North Herts who are unable to use public transport. This may be because of mobility problems or simply because there is no alternative form of passenger transport available. Our transport scheme helps people get to essential appointments such as hospital visits, outpatients, day centres, dental appointments etc.
A team of more than 30 dedicated volunteer drivers from all walks of life use their own cars in their free time to take passengers to their appointments. Passengers pay the drivers a mileage rate to cover the distance they travel. All drivers are CRB checked.
Here's what our customers are saying about the service we provide:
Mrs I from Letchworth attends regular appointments at Pinehill Hospital in Hitchin and said "Thank you to all your staff – you provide a very good service!"
Mrs H from Letchworth used our Transport Scheme at very short notice. She was taken to Lister Hospital for an appointment and said "The service was wonderful - your driver, was absolutely golden .. a real star!"

Please note, whenever possible, bookings should be made at least one week in advance. Whilst we always do our best to meet requests, there may be times when this is not possible. NB. There is a minimum charge of £3.50 a trip, plus mileage costs which the passenger should pay to the driver.
