NHCVS owns and manages an accessible community minibus.
The vehicle is available for hire by community groups in North Herts and the surrounding districts.
Groups must be members of North Herts CVS to meet our insurance requirements.
The priority is to cater for the needs of organisations or groups dealing with children and young people but it is also available to other community groups in the area.
The vehicle can carry up to 13 passengers (plus the driver) in normal seating mode or seats can be removed to accommodate up to 4 wheelchairs with access via a lift.
The vehicle is spacious, heated and comfortable with secure fixings for wheelchairs and a range of other safety equipment.
Once you have confirmed that the minibus is available for hire when you want it,
please download and complete the booking form (below) and return it to the Vehicle Coordinator at our offices in Letchworth.
A booking form must be completed and a deposit of 50% of the total cost paid in order to secure the booking.
(24 hours notice is required for a cancellation. A cancellation fee of £25 will be charged if less notice is given)

North Herts CVS provides local groups with a range of useful equipment to hire at affordable rates.
Some items are even free to use for our members.

Equipment and Services:
- Laptop computer: £6 per day or FREE to Members
- Projector: £10 per day or FREE to Members
- Projection Screen: £6 per day or FREE to Members
- Flipchart stand (not including paper or pens): £6 per day or FREE to Members
- Display boards: £6 per day or FREE to Members
- Laminator (including pockets in A5, A4, or A3): £0.75 to £1.25 each or £0.50 - £1.00 each for Members
- Trimmer: £1.00 per day or FREE to Members
- Photocopies (in Black and White or colour, sizes A5 to A3): £0.10 to £1.00 per copy, £0.05 to £0.50 for Members
- Comb and Wire Binder: £0.25 per binder or £0.15 for Members
- Reference books, up-to-date funding guides and books, available for reference only: Members only (FREE)
Bookings must be made at least 7 days in advance.
£5 charge will be made for cancellations less than 3 days in advance.
Higher charges will apply to statutory organisations.
When arranging to collect equipment, please allow extra time for staff to demonstrate the use of the item and to complete an equipment hire agreement form.
Disclosure and Barring Services
DBS Checks are required for any person who works with children or vulnerable adults.
We are registered as an umbrella body with the DBS which means that we can process DBS checks for you, your staff and volunteers.
DBS checks were previously called CRB checks. The Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) and the Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA) merged and are now known as the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
If you would like us to do your DBS check, you will need to make an appointment.
All checks are done face to face at our Letchworth office and usually take 10-15 minutes.

The person requiring the check will need to bring along original identification documents to the appointment. We suggest:
- Passport, Driving Licence or Birth Certificate
- National Insurance number (on either a p45 or p60)
- Bank statement or utility bill with your current name and address which is less than 3 months old
If you have moved with the last 5 years, previous address details, including postcodes will be required. If you have changed your name, you will need to bring details including the date that your name changed.

NHCVS Administration Charges
Whilst DBS checks are FREE to volunteers / unpaid staff within voluntary organisations, please note that North Herts CVS charge an administration fee for each check carried out. Discounts are available for multiple checks. The charges are as follows:
For North Herts CVS Members
£12 per check
For other community and voluntary groups and individuals
£18 per check
For commercial groups and others
£25 per check

By using our franking service for your mailshots, your organisation can make considerable savings on standard postage costs.
Our franking service is available for mailings of 50 envelopes or more which need to be ready for the post (filled, sealed and addressed).
Please note that we need a minimum of three working days notice.
